Brazil: Beer prices remain more stable in January
Brewery news

Brazil’s beer prices remained more stable in January than other alcoholic beverages, which saw an increase due to inflation, FreshlyBottled.com reported February 26.

According to the National Statistics Institute (IBGE), the price adjustment was 0.3 percent for drinks consumed at home and generally sold in retail outlets, while outside the home, in establishments such as bars and restaurants, it reached 0.34 percent.

The IBGE highlights that beer inflation was below the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which recorded an increase of 0.42 percent in January 2024, regardless of the place of purchase.

However, in Rio de Janeiro, beer recorded the largest price increase in January, due to inflation of 2.8 percent in bars, while Sгo Paulo experienced deflation of 1.83 percent. Retail prices in the Brazilian capital rose by 1.36 percent.

Beer-related inflation in January differed from the behavior of the rest of the beverage sector in general, which rose by 1.38 percent, the largest increase since 2016.
