Ukraine: Carlsberg launches new canning line at Lviv Brewery
Brewery news

Danish brewing company Carlsberg Group has launched a new canning line at the Lviv Brewery in Ukraine, investing nearly €12 million (610 million UAH) in the project, the Odessa Journal reported on May 5.

This was reported by the Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi.

The opening was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, Thomas Lund-Sørensen, and the CEO of Carlsberg Group, Jacob Aarup-Andersen.

The canning line itself occupies 1,000 square meters on the brewery site. It consists of eight machines, with a maximum capacity of up to 40,000 cans (20,000 liters) per hour. The new line supports 0.33-liter and 0.5-liter can formats.

Among the key challenges during the launch, the company cited integrating the equipment into existing production facilities and extensive preparation of the workshop. The line was transported from Germany using 63 trucks, and up to 20 specialists were involved in the installation works.

Three employees work on the line in a single shift.

“Since this is a new type of production, the company supported staff retraining and training: a two-week in-person training program in Germany, followed by an online course for full mastery of canning technology,” Carlsberg Group said.

The new line is equipped with automatic format changeover (reducing changeover time from 40 to 15 minutes), an innovative pasteurizer (a system that briefly heats beer after filling to destroy microorganisms), and an ultrasonic foam removal system that allows CO₂ consumption to be reduced tenfold.

Beer production is carried out using Ukrainian barley, which is purchased from farmers in 13 regions. This also provides more than 3,000 additional jobs in rural communities.
