USA, NJ: Mark Anthony Brewing to eliminate 143 positions at its Hillside brewery
A wave of layoffs is set to impact the Union County operations of the manufacturer behind popular ready-to-drink brands like White Claw Hard Seltzer and Mike’s Hard Lemonade, JNBiz reported on August 19.
In a filing with the state Department of Labor & Workforce Development, Mark Anthony Brewing said it will eliminate 143 positions at its brewery and production site in Hillside between Sept. 23 and Nov. 3.
Based in Chicago, MAB is considered the fourth-largest brewer in the U.S. The 53-year-old company employs more than 800 workers across its facilities in New Jersey, Arizona and South Carolina, according to its website.
It is also a subsidiary of Mark Anthony Group, a family-owned, diversified, privately held beverage company.
Media representatives for Mark Anthony Brewing and Mark Anthony Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Hillside brewery and packaging operation opened five years ago. The move came as part of a larger growth effort that also saw the addition of plants in Arizona and South Carolina.
In Hillside, the 440,000-square-foot facility on North Union Avenue has a workforce of 170 full-time team members. Last year, that group produced 11.7 million cases, according to Mark Anthony Brewing.
