USA, VA: Loco Lion Brewery headed to Loudoun County
A new brewery is in the works for western Loudoun County and it’s named in honor of a couple of large jungle cats that once lived there. The Burn does love an interesting backstory, The Burn reported on August 5.
The brewery will be called Loco Lion – meaning both “Crazy Lion,” but also the “Loco” is a nice hat tip to Loudoun County.
It will be located on a hilltop at 36577 Heskett Lane near Hillsboro north of Purcellville.
It turns out, back in the early 1980s, two lion cubs – Justin and Jezebel – were moved from an animal park in Reston to a farm in Hillsboro. They lived in a big fenced enclosure for several years and – according to Loco Lion – were a big hit in town, with Justin even riding on a float in a parade through town.
Eventually, the lions passed away and today, they are buried on the property where Loco Lion is getting ready to open.
“Loco Lion is a farm brewery and winery room perched atop 26 scenic acres in Loudoun County, offering a true countryside getaway,” the brewery’s website reads. “Our spacious grounds provide the perfect setting to enjoy craft beers, wine, food and live entertainment, while taking in stunning Loudoun County views.”
Loco Lion has a line-up of 10 beers in the works including Cubs Cry Session IPA, a Pott’s Pilsner, a Roaring Red Ale, and a Cross-Eyed Kolsch Lite.
They will also offer food, ciders, wines, seltzers, non-alcoholic beverages and more. You can see more about Loco Lion’s offerings here.
No official opening date has been announced yet, but Loco Lion has said it will be sometime this fall.
