German brewers sold about 51.4 million hectolitres of beer in the first half of 2003, down 4.1% versus the corresponding period last year, according to the data published by the German Statistics Office. Beer sales on German market represented 89% of brewers' sales and fell by 4.8% to 45.6 million hectolitres in the first half. Beer exports rose by 2% to 5.8 million hectolitres. In the EU German brewers sold about 4.2m hectolitres of beer.
