The UK brewing conglomerate, Scottish & Newcastle (S&N), announced on June 19 that it has obtained European Union merger clearance for the acquisitions of 51% of Portuguese brewery, Sociedade Central de Cervejas, which it did not own, and 100 % of Sociedade de Aqua de Luso, a mineral water company. All conditions relating to these transactions have now been satisfied and completion is expected by the end of June 2003.
