USA, FL: Mathews Brewing Co. to officially close on March 13
One of Lake Worth Beach's most beloved watering holes, Mathews Brewing Co. will officially close on Friday, March 13, the Palm Beach Post reported on February 5.
Owner and founder Dave Mathews said in an Instagram post that "It’s bittersweet news, but it’s true I am closing down the brewery and relocating back to my hometown of Tampa to be closer to my family. Believe it or not, I turned 62 last year and I have been working like a dog since I was 15. It’s been a lot of fun, but it’s time for me to pivot once again."
The brewery opened in 2017 and is located at 130 S. H St. in the city's Artisanal Industrial District. Just a short walk from downtown and described on their website as a "playground for beer lovers," the brewery has become synonymous with delicious, award-winning craft beers, live music and a fun, party-like atmosphere both inside the air conditioned taproom and at their massive, tiki hut-covered beer garden.
Mathews Brewing Co. features live music most nights and over the years has had regular food trucks on site. They've also held plenty of seasonal events, like the annual Luau Party and Brewapalooza.
In late 2023 they opened Mathews Brewing Co. Scratch Kitchen literally across the alley from the brewery in a commercial area that fronts South Dixie Highway.
Mathews worked with chef Lisa Mercado to develop a menu featuring a mix of high-end bar and pub food that complimented a lot of their beers and made it extremely easy for patrons at the brewery to grab a bite. Featuring smashburgers, Wagyu hot dogs, Detroit and New York-style pizzas, Bavarian style pretzels & beer cheese, peanut butter pie and more, the restaurant has been an excellent yin to the brewery's yang.
Mathews Brewing Co.'s beers have won many awards over the years. The most recent, however, was one of the sweetest. Their Belgian-style Witbier "White Goblin" took the gold medal at the 2025 Great American Beer Festival that was held Oct. 10 and 11, 2025 in Denver, Colorado. GABF medals are some of the most sought-after accolades in the professional brewing community.
"I brewed my first beer in my garage Jan. 12,1998 and learned how to brew at the Palm Beach Draftsmen Beer Club. I am very proud of all the beer medals we have won over the years, especially our GABF (Great American Beer Festival) Gold Medal this past year for White Goblin. It was always about quality craft beer at Mathews."
