Brewery news USA, OH: Moeller Brew Barn to open sometime this summer in Monroe
A new taproom and brewery is coming to Monroe, Cincinnati.com reported on May 30.

Moeller Brew Barn, the Maria Stein, Ohio-based brewing company, will open sometime this summer in the former Rivertown Brewery and Barrel House building, located at 6550 Hamilton Lebanon Road.

“We'll spend the next few months putting some new touches on the taproom, and we'll fire up the brewhouse and start brewing our favorites," founder Nick Moeller said in a release. "The new brewhouse and cellar will help us expand our distribution footprint as well."

The 25,875 square-foot facility will allow Moeller to expand the brand's taproom presence, the press release said. More than 24 beers will be on tap at any given time, including beers exclusive to the Monroe location, and food will also be available, such as Neapolitan-style pizzas, smoked wings and Bavarian pretzels.

Moeller Brew Barn is aiming to open the new location this summer.

Rivertown Brewery closed its doors in February, five years after moving to Monroe. According to Cincinnati Business Courier, the longtime brewing company cited the pandemic, staffing shortages and rising food prices as reasons for closing in a sign posted on its window.

Brewery news USA, NY: Other One Brewing Company already open in Halfmoon
One of the Capital Region’s newest microbreweries, Other One Brewing Company in Halfmoon, had its genesis when a group of neighbors got together and started brewing, The Daily Gazette reported on May 28.

Clifton Park resident Randy Lewis had been home brewing on and off for 30 years and even owned a home brew beer supply store in Troy in the 1990s. His son talked him into home brewing again, which piqued his neighbors’ interest. “In the neighborhood, when one or two guys does a project, everybody comes out,” Lewis said.

Soon, Lewis started brewing with neighbors Matt Stillitano, Peter LaPan and Brian Hutchinson in Hutchinson’s garage. “We all got together, and one thing led to another,” Lewis said.

When there was a storefront available in Glennpeter Plaza on Route 9, the four decided to take the leap from home brewers to microbrewery owners, and they opened Other One Brewing earlier this spring.

So far, the group has created nine different beers for their new brewery, including three NEIPAs (New England IPAs), a stout, a red ale, a hefeweizen, and an American ale that is the number one seller so far.

Lewis is the head brewer, using an on-premises two-barrel brewing system with three ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OH: Avon Brewing Company to move its current location to a new space
Big things have been brewing for the owners of Avon Brewing Company (ABC) and now they are ready to spill the exciting details, Cleveland.com reported on May 30.

“We can now confirm we have bought the three acres of land on Detroit Road (36383 Detroit Road) and plan to move our current location and build a new restaurant and production facility,” said Mathias Hauck, ABC co-owner/brewer. “The new space will afford us the opportunity to move our production from Madison (Ohio) to Avon. It will also enable us to can all of our beers in-house and distribute our beers right from Avon.”

The vacant land at 36383 Detroit Road once housed Spa Depot and before that, Gerber’s Garden Center, and even before that it was Forthofer’s Garden Center.

According to Hauck, the footprint for the new space will be more than 12,000-sq.-ft and will include a restaurant (with double the seating capacity of the current location), outdoor beer garden, separate party room, and production facility. Another exciting addition to the new location that will be sure to please guests will be the increase in parking spaces from 26 to 150 parking spaces.

“We have outgrown our parking situation and our space inside the restaurant,” ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, MB: Molson Coors reportedly planning to discontinue Standard Lager
Molson Coors Beverage Company is reportedly planning to stop production of a legacy brand that is a cult favourite with beer drinkers in Manitoba, the Canadian Beer News reported on May 31.

Standard Lager (5% abv) was first brewed in 1926 by Drewry’s Brewery, which operated in Winnipeg in 1877 to 1940. Various brewery sales and consolidations in subsequent years have led to the Drewry brands ultimately being owned by Molson Coors, which has kept Standard Lager in production exclusively for the Manitoba market.

The discontinuation of Standard Lager, which is described on its packaging as “lager of established quality, long favoured for its mellow, satisfying flavour,” has been rumoured for some time, and the Winnipeg Free Press confirmed with a Molson Coors spokesperson this week that it will be officially retired in September 2022.

According to the Free Press report, the province’s Liquor Mart chain is listing Standard Lager as “out of stock”, but many independent retailers are still selling the beer, and it will also remain available at bars and restaurants as long as it is still in production.

Brewery news USA, MN: Disgruntled Brewing to remain open under new ownership team
Disgruntled Brewing in Perham will remain open under a new ownership team, according to a Friday, May 27 Facebook post.

"The legacy continues," the post states.

Disgruntled had in April announced that it would be closing its doors on May 15 .

"The original owners, who have been there through everything with us, will always have a special place in all our hearts," the Facebook post states. "We wish them the best of luck with what the future has in store for them. We cannot thank them enough for all that they've done for us all."

The post concludes with a quote from Meister Eckhart, a German theologian, philosopher and mystic, who said, "And suddenly you just know ... it's time to start something new and trust the magic of new beginnings."

Brewery news USA, CA: Crooked Goat Brewing adds new taproom in Petaluma
Many people know Crooked Goat Brewing as a hub for great craft beer in Sebastopol, but what some do not realize is that the brewery has roots in Petaluma, the Sonoma Magazine reported on May 30.

Before opening Crooked Goat in the Barlow complex in 2016, co-founders Paul Vyenielo, Rich Allen, Andy Erickson, Andy Cook, Scott Tieman and Will Erickson crafted their brews in a small office space behind Pete’s Henny Penny restaurant.

Crooked Goat has come a long way since those early days, expanding its Barlow location three times to keep up with demand. On May 14, the brewery added a new taproom in Petaluma, just west of downtown. To Vyenielo, it felt like a homecoming.

“I was born and raised in Petaluma, and three of my partners are also from here,” he said. “We’d been looking for a second location for a couple years, and it just felt right.”

The search led Vyenielo and his friends to an 1880s carriage house at the corner of Howard Street and Western Avenue — only a few doors down from his childhood home. In later years, the space housed a tractor dealership and, most recently, a t-shirt print shop and ballet studio. The partners gutted ...More info on site

Brewery news India: Beer about to become more expensive this summer
Like most consumer products, beer is about to become more expensive this summer as brewers in India try to cope with a steep increase in the prices of barley, glass and other packaging material, the Money Control reported on May 30.

According to industry estimates, the price of barley has almost doubled in three months, and the cost of labels, cartons and bottle crowns risen by more than 25 percent. Glass makers, too, have raised prices by 30 percent in three months.

“We have as such been compelled to either raise the landed cost of our beers or reduce discounts in order to remain viable,” said Prem Dewan, Managing Director (MD) of DeVANS Modern Breweries, which makes beer brands such as Godfather, Kotsberg Pils and Six Fields.

“…there may not be any immediate effect on retail rates; however, the supply of cheaper brands may be adversely affected,” Dewan added.

Other beer makers like United Breweries and B9 Beverages, maker of the craft beer Bira 91, are also hiking prices.

United Breweries is implementing price increases in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and a number of smaller states, said Rishi Pardal, MD and chief executive officer (CEO).

Pardal indicated the company is contemplating “judicious ...More info on site
