E-Malt.com News article: Czech Republic: Exceptional year of awards for original Czech Budweiser

Beer magazine Pivní kurýr concluded its year-long Beer of the Year readership opinion poll, Czech Business Weekly said on January 2. Readers have – for the eighth time in a row – given traditional Czech brewer Budějovický Budvar’s pale lager first prize in the main lager category.

Budvar also came in second place in the Brewery of the Year category. The awards were presented to Budvar representatives on December 14, 2006, at the Prague 7–Holešovice beer shop Pivní Galerie.

The brewer has won 10 times in the last 16 years. The year 2006 was truly exceptional for the state-owned brewer. Budvar’s pale premium lager won international awards, taking the gold medal in the worldwide Monde Selection, organized by the Belgian International Institute for Quality Selection. But it only got silver from the U.S. Brewers Association’s World Beer Cup 2006 contest.
