Fire raced through an immigrant workers' dormitory at Plzensky Prazdroj brewery in Plzen on September 07. Local media reported at least one worker died and two firefighters were injured in the blaze at the Plzensky Prazdroj facility, a division of international brewer SABMiller, Deutsche Presse Agentur released September 07.

About 10 men, most from Slovakia, were reportedly sleeping in their rooms after a night shift when the fire broke out at midday. The building houses about 30 men.

"It was all very fast," one survivor told the online edition of the Pravo newspaper. "We had to leap out the windows in our shorts."

The brewery makes several brands of beer including the leading Czech export Pilsner Urquell. Officials were searching for the cause.
