Brewery news

The Dupont brewery from Tourpes, Belgium, has received the Gold Palm of the Best World Beer Prize for its beer "la Saison Dupont". The prize was awarded by the American magazine “Men' s Journal”, which is published in more than 400.000 copies, in its July’s edition.

Dupont is famous for its beer "Moinette", and this prize allows the brewer to promote another of its productions. In spite of this prize receipt, Olivier Dedeycker , the brewery’s executive says he does not want to depend only on the American market even though USA represent an increasingly important market in what concerns the exports of Dupon brewery’s products.

“Last year, the USA had a share of 13% in the total volume of our activities. And we arrive already at share of 20% this year. Our Internet website is more and more visited since the announcement of the result. Many Americans inform themselves about us”

“La Saison Dupont” beer has its origins in the season beers which served to refresh formerly the seasonal workers using to work in the large farms of the region, as this was at Tourpes.

From this fact, this beer containing 6,5% of alcohol, is bitter and dry, in order to refresh well. We don’t add sugar to this, as this is often done nowadays. In Tourpes, where we are, but also elsewhere, it was brewed in the winter and was consumed in the summer. Above all, it was about a light beer, with a low alcohol strength. I believe it’s impossible to describe it!"
