Brewery news

Local Meridian micro-brewery Loose Screw Beer Company could soon have a new location, boisedev.com reported on April 24.

Currently, Loose Screw operates a taproom in North Meridian and has a production facility in Garden City. The new location is proposed for 105 E Carlton Ave in downtown Meridian and would house a taphouse and beer production.

The new downtown Meridian space was formerly the Chapel of the Chimes funeral home.

“The newly proposed location will house our entire beer production, taproom space for retail sales, and event space,” the application letter said. “The production space will hold a brand-new state-of-the-art 10bbl system from Premier Stainless out of San Diego, CA. The system will be viewable from the taproom and the outside closest to Main Street. For marketing and bulk buying purposes, we will propose a silo to be placed at the South- West side of the subject property.

The taproom would have an “open feel concept.” There would be two long bars, one of which would oversee the production space. There would also be two couch areas. The owners want to make an enclosed beer garden on the property line on Main St. and near this area, there would be space for a permanent food truck.

“Our plan is to partner with a local community member who is experienced in the food truck industry,” the application letter said. “We see this truck serving elevated food and, most importantly, something that would complement the downtown market. For example, we would not engage with a truck serving pizza or sushi, considering the vicinity of those types of food from other restaurants. Beyond the truck, we plan to support our local restaurants such as we do with our current N. Meridian taproom. In our business plan, we will host food from a downtown restaurant once per month.”

There would be an event space on the upper level above the brewery and taproom.

The applicant still needs permit approval from the City of Meridian.

Meridian residents and husband and wife duo Mike and Pam Garcia bought Loose Screw last spring.
