Whisky news

Tree House Brewing Co., Inc., a Charlton craft beer producer with a large cult following, has requested permission from the town to build a farmer-distillery on its Charlton property, the Worcester Business Journal reported on February 25.

Specifically, according to public documents, the brewer is asking to remove 10,819 square feet of its warehouse, which is a Section 19C farmer-brewery, to construct a Section 19E farmer-distillery. The build-out is expected to cost $1.6 million, according to an alteration of premises amendment filed with the ABCC.

Tree House is asking for a permit to sell the spirits both for on-site consumption and to go, along with the company’s beer.

Tree House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tree House is the second local brewer to recently announce plans to expand into liquor production and sales. At the end of December, Wormtown Brewery in Worcester said it was in the preliminary stages of attempting to add distillery to their operations, an idea long in the works but which was stalled by the coronavirus pandemic.
