Brewery news

Planted Flag Brewing is ready to open its doors in Medina, Cleveland.com reported on February 27.

Less than a year after breaking ground Karen and Aaron Wirtz - former head brewer for The Jolly Scholar in Cleveland - aim to open the brewery on Monday, March 16.

The brewery is at 3594 Pearl Road, about 200 feet from the Rocky River and about 3 miles north of Medina's Square.

"It's been a relief," Aaron Wirtz said. "I'm focused on getting open. It's a long project with construction and permitting. I want to make sure everything is right. There's little time to celebrate. I know what lies ahead."

What is coming, to start, are four beers he has in tanks right now: A Munich Helles he is billing as an approachable German Light Lager; a Saison; an India Pale Ale and a Blonde Ale. A Double India Pale Ale and Schwarzbier will follow.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and closed Sunday.
