Brewery news

After more than a year of renovations inside a Cevallos Street space that used to house The Beach Bar, the first batch of beers will be ready for public consumption just after Christmas at Dos Sirenos Brewing Co., San Antonio’s newest brewpub located inside the Lone Star Art District, mySanAntonio.com reported on December 12.

Owners Mike and Kari Sireno will open the doors Dec. 27, and they plan to have at least five of their beers available. Sireno hopes to have his house Hefewiezen, Belgian wit, a pair of ales and a special Russian imperial stout named Morepheus flowing for opening day.

Plans are to grow the lineup to eight different beers, and they have installed a 20-handle tap line that they hope to fill in time as they expand their seasonal recipes and options.

“This has been a long time coming,” Mike Sireno said, who co-brews the beers with his son Jacob. “We started this process in October 2018, and totally gutted everything that was here.”

The kid-friendly brewpub has 3,600 square feet of interior space and another 1,000 outside in a covered outdoor patio area that will contain game stations and televisions.

And when the beer flows, so will the food, with a full kitchen that will be serving up a lineup of burgers, sandwiches, wings, chips and dip, salads and a dessert menu that features a vanilla bean ice cream float topped with stout beer.

The opening of Dos Sirenos will bolster an already booming beer district on the South Side, which includes nearby Dorcol Distilling + Brewing Co., the Blue Star Brewing Co., Künstler Brewing and the Freetail Brewing Co. tap room. All are located within walking distance of one another.

“That’s something that wasn’t lost on selecting this as our place of business,” Sireno said.

Dos Sirenos started brewing up beer during the Thanksgiving week and was feverishly adding fresh beer to the tanks Wednesday.

Beers ($6) will be served in glasses that range in size based on the styling of the beer. Plans are to also offer beer flights of four ($12 to $16), as well as crowler and growler fills to go.

For patrons who want added private benefits, Dos Sirenos is also offering up its “Poseidon Club,” which will be open to the first 200 that sign up for $200 per year. The club includes your own mug, a Fiesta medal and discounted beer and merchandise.

Dos Sirenos Brewing Co., 231 E. Cevallos St. Hours (starting Dec. 27): 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursdays, 3 p.m. to midnight Fridays, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
