Barley news

Australian exports of barley and canola hit new-season highs in January to reflect steady demand from Saudi Arabia and China on barley and European crushers on canola, the Grain Central reported on March 15.

Latest export data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows feed barley shipments in January at 453,725 tonnes, up 61 per cent from the December total, while malting exports at 178,372 tonnes were up 2pc from December.

Belgium and Germany were the volume buyers of Australian canola in January, with Australia shipping a total of 191,281t to all destinations, with cargoes to Belgium and Germany jointly accounting for 176,699t.

January shipments were up marginally from the December total of 190,953 tonnes, and both figures are close to the maximum that can be shipped from southern Australian ports while wheat and barley shipments, which use the same facilities, are running at full pace.
