A Pennsylvania brewing company has inked a deal to open a brewpub and bring their "liquid art" to the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported on September 26.

Roy Pitz Brewing Co. of Chambersburg has signed a lease to open a 4,000-square-foot brewpub on the ground floor of 990 Spring Garden St. in an area that is pegged as the Spring Arts district, according to Craig Grossman and Aaron Cohen, partners in Arts and Crafts Holdings.

Initially launching only as a wholesale business, Roy Pitz eventually grew into a microbrewery with a brewpub located above its production brewery in Chambersburg.

The Callowhill location — dubbed Roy Pitz Barrel House — is expected to open in the first quarter of 2017.

The Spring Arts district is made up of artisans and makers, technology and creative businesses, performance venues, and independent food-and-beverage establishments, including local food trucks.

The 990 Spring Garden building is a former industrial building originally designed by architect Rankin and Kellogg.

The property has undergone extensive renovations as loft-style office spaces by Arts and Crafts Holdings. The project is being redeveloped into a space that caters to creative and innovative companies.

“We are makers, and excited to bring our liquid art to this epicenter for makers and craft production," said Jesse Rotz, president of Roy Pitz.

“This location is cool because we can really get back to our roots of being artists, the beers created here are never meant for mass production," Rotz said "This allows us the opportunity to continue creating beer for the local community.”

The brewing company will brew on site and barrel age exclusive sour beers at the building. Live hops will be grown outside of the building before they're harvested for use in the brewing process.

The 990 Spring Garden St. building is 100 percent leased through the summer of 2017, when 66,000 square feet of contiguous space will come on line.

The brewpub design is by Boxwood Architects.
