E-Malt.com News article: USA, WY: Danielmark's Brewing Company Inc. hopes to have federal permit by mid-December

To be able to start production, Danielmark's Brewing Company Inc. in Cheyenne, WY must wait for a federal permit from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Wyoming Tribune reported on December 4.

Kim Combs, one of the entrepreneurs in the brewery venture, said Danielmark's applied for the permit several months ago, and the estimated wait time for the process was about 115 days - making Dec. 16 the day the procedure is supposed to be complete.

"It's been a really hard process for us," Combs said of the wait time.

Incidentally, because Danielmark's applied for the permit in the summer, it may not have it as bad as other ventures.

For brewery permits requested in October, for example, the wait time has ballooned to nearly 144 days, according to the TTB website.

Those wait times are in spite of the agency saying its "goal is to process applications within 75 days of receipt."

Nevertheless, the owners of Danielmark's are excited to get open.

Once the TTB grants the brewery permit, Combs said the pub will open once beer has been made, about a two-week process.

Thus, if the permit is received Dec. 16, the brewery could be open in time for New Year's Eve, though nothing is set in stone.

The brewery's city microbrewery permit was approved in August, and the owners have hired four part-time bartenders.

The brewery is the work of two couples - Paul and Beth Warntz and Daniel and Kim Combs - and it takes its name from Daniel and his middle name, Mark.

The couples have been renovating the historic Corson House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The brewery plans to open with six beers:

- Starmaker, a pale ale

- Corson, a Pilsner named in honor of the brewery's home

- Blue Citra, a Belgian IPA

- Copper Thief, an amber ale

- Old Regret, an Irish red

- Angle Iron, a dry Irish stout

"We want to serve you great beer," Kim said. "We don't want to sell what we wouldn't drink."

Once Danielmark's opens, it will be among the more than two dozen breweries in Wyoming.

That figure includes the two existing breweries in Cheyenne - Freedom's Edge Brewing Co. and Cheyenne Brewing Co.
