Brewery news

More than a year after it was announced, Dutch Girl Brewery has opened its doors in Spring Lake Township, MLive.com reported on July 25.

The 7,500-square-foot facility is located at 14964 Cleveland St. in the former Midwest Motorsports building in Spring Lake Township.

The brewery officially opened earlier this month and celebrated a grand opening on July 18. It is the culmination of more than three years of work for the husband-and-wife team of Luke Finchem and Kelly Rozema Finchem.

"There is nothing cooler than watching people clink their glasses, high-fiving each other and saying cheers in here because it's community," Kelly Finchem said. "They can come together here. I mean, if they weren't here, they might go somewhere else but it's so nice to see people doing it here and being a part of this."

Dutch Girl Brewery's beers are brewed in a traditional style by beermaker Josh Lentz.

Kelly Finchem said the staff at the popular cidery has been nothing but supportive throughout the development of the brewery.

The name Dutch Girl Brewery is an ode to Kelly Finchem's heritage. Historic photos of her relatives can be seen throughout the taproom, which Kelly described as "plush."

"I wasn't sure I liked it at first but we've gotten so many compliments on the floor," Kelly said.
