Florida welcomed the fifth most breweries across the U.S. in 2014, with 42 new beer makers setting up shop here in 2014.

The Brewers Association named Florida among the top states for brewery openings at the Craft Brewers Conference in Portland, Oregon, reported BeerinFlorida.com on April 30.

The total number of Florida breweries that make beer on-location is estimated at 139, according to the craft beer news site.

Washington topped the rankings with 84 brewery openings in 2014, followed by New York with 67 openings, California with 59 and Colorado with 55.

South Florida's craft beer scene is beginning to rise, with a growing number of breweries announcing their grand openings, including Twisted Trunk Brewing in Palm Beach Gardens, Barrel of Monks Brewing in Boca Raton and J. Wakefield Brewing in Miami.

With more set to arrive, including Native Brewing Co. planned for Fort Lauderdale and Gravity Brew Lab and Concrete Beach Brewery coming to Miami's Wynwood neighbourhood.

Sawgrass Brewing Company in Coral Springs was reported as the only brewery to recently close in Florida.
