Brewery news

Craft brewery Jack's Abby Brewing is opening a restaurant and taproom in its hometown of Framingham, an expansion that will allow for increased production of its signature lager, Boston Business reported on March 26.

Brothers Jack, Eric and Sam Hendler founded Jack's Abby in 2011. The brewery has quickly grown in popularity, attracting 25,000 visitors last year to its 17,000-square-foot site at 81 Morton St. in Framingham and being named one of the top 100 breweries in the world by RateBeer.

The brewery has plans to move to a 67,000-square-foot brewery at 100 Clinton St. and open a restaurant and taproom on site. The expansion will require a $6 million investment in equipment and site improvements, Jack's Abby said. The brewery, which currently employs 19 workers, will create 35 full-time jobs as a result of the expansion. Completion is slated for late this year.

In mid-March, the town of Framingham voted to approve a tax increment financing plan for the expansion. A TIF plan allows municipalities to provide flexible targeted incentives to stimulate job-creating development, according to the Massachusetts Office of Housing and Economic Development. As part of the Jack's Abby TIF, Framingham will provide commercial property tax exemptions.

"The company’s strategic move demonstrates great confidence in our downtown," said Art Robert, director of community and economic development for the town of Framingham, in a statement. "Jack’s Abby operations will help mark our downtown as a great place to invest, work, and play.”
