Thailand, Bangkok: Thai Beverages, Thailand’s biggest brewer, could join a consortium preparing to buy a stake in Liverpool football club, according to press reports. The Guardian reports today that the brewer may be a potential partner in the bid, headed by media mogul Paiboon Damrongchaitham.

Liverpool has been the focus of a Thai bid for several weeks, with the country’s Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, making a bid last month. Shinawatra has abandoned the idea of buying a stake on behalf of the country after Damrongchaitham offered to replace the government at the negotiating table, the newspaper reports.

Thai Beverages, maker of Chang Beer in Thailand, is said to be keen to become a shirt sponsor for Liverpool, The Guardian claims. Liverpool’s kit currently bears the logo of Carlsberg.
