An online retailer in China claims it sold over 30 million cans of beer during the World Cup, China-Wines reported on July 18.

According to Want China Times, Tmall which is owned by e-commerce giant Alibaba, reported it sold over 30 mln cans of beer between 1 June and 13 July, a near threefold increase on sales versus the same period last year.

A short period between 4-6 June in particular saw a sales spike as customers stocked up before the kick-off on 12 June.

German beer was the most sought-after, with four of the top 10 beers being German and Valentins Weisbier being the second most popular behind Tsingtao.

Shanghai was the biggest beer buying city, while Shenzen bought the most snacks.
