A new business in Danville will have a lot of people 'cheer'-ing. 2 Witches Winery and Brewing Company is opening this week. They say it will be the only place to make both wine and beer under one roof in Virginia, Wset.com reported on May 13.

When 2 Witches Winery and Brewing Company opens their doors, they will put Danville on the map.

"The state map of Virginia puts little icons wherever there are farm wineries and last year when they produced that map, the legend was on top of Danville because there was nothing here, this year there is actually a spot for Danville," said Julie Brown, President of 2 Witches Winery and Brewing Company.

Brown says she and her husband Ethan had thought about opening a winery for years.

"The equipment we use for making wine, we only use it for a couple of months out of the year," said Brown.

So, they decided to also put it to another use: beer.

"This is something we've been planning for a while and practicing," said Brown.

Julie will use her father's Pittsylvania County vineyard for the grapes and Ethan will use his chemistry degree to create the beer. They hope together they'll make a bar environment with food trucks outside.

"We think this is something that's going to be good for Danville," said Brown.

Young Professionals Committee Member Corrie Teague agrees.

"Attracting young professionals is always key to any community," said Teague.

They hope to spread their brand across town by the end of the summer by bottling and distributing their products.

"We're very proud that we were able to...provide something that people expect to see in a city the size of Danville," said Brown.

The wine they make will not be ready until this summer. But they hope to attract large crowds at their opening on Friday, May 16.
