Brewery news

Football fans can look forward to cheering on their teams while drinking favorite beers at Pigskin Brewing Co. in Gahanna's Creekside, This Week reported on May 7.

Strathmore Development Co., owner of the private portions of Creekside, and Pigskin Brewing Co. announced April 24 that Pigskin would construct a state-of-the-art sports-themed craft brewery and taproom at Creekside. It will be across from Signatures at Creekside's C Building, 81 Mill St., in space formerly occupied by The Chocolate Tree, which will reopen at 953 E. Johnstown Road in Gahanna.

"Pigskin wanted an inviting atmosphere where residents and visitors to Gahanna could see the fermenting and craft-beer manufacturing storage tanks, as well as the Tasting Room, right on Mill Street, so they are taking the entire front of the 81 Mill St. building," said Terry Benton, Strathmore vice president of real estate. "The design will allow guests to also enjoy hand-crafted beer on the covered outdoor seating area in front of this building."

Pigskin's taproom will feature a variety of beers from local breweries around central Ohio in addition to their own hand-crafted beers.

"Pigskin brewery and taproom will be an atmosphere where the guest can discuss the fine art of craft brewing with our master brewers while enjoying their favorite sporting events," said Tarry Summers, Pigskin founder. "Creekside is undergoing an incredible renaissance with the new owners, and we are ecstatic to be a part of the great things happening here."

Brewer and chief marketing executive Mike Rockwell said it has been a long journey to find the right location to call home, but he couldn't be more excited.

"We want to thank all our fans for being so patient, and we cannot wait to serve a pint to each and every one of you," he said.

The motto on Pigskin's Facebook page is "Remember, Great Beer Isn't Everything, It's the Only Thing. Cheers!"

The brewery won't be serving food, but guests will be able to order food from neighboring restaurants that will be delivered to the taproom.

Benton said the drawings are being finalizing for the brewery and taproom, with construction expected to start this month.
"The goal is to open in August just as football season is starting," he said.
