Brewery news

The consumption habits on the Romanian beer market are changing due to lower purchasing power, given that 2013 saw the lowest level of consumption in the last 5 years and a drop of 10 percent compared to 2012, according to the EY Regioplan: The Contribution made by Beer to the European Economy report, quoted by Agerpres.

More and more Romanian consumers chose cheaper beer, a trend that has become more pronounced in recent years. Given that bottled beer is usually more expensive, this type of beer has also registered a decline since 2008.

Beer is one of the few sectors in Romania that still has a growing local production, and over 95 percent is being produced locally, according to the report.

A total of 17 production units operated on the Romanian beer market in 2012.
