E-Malt.com News article: USA, CA: David Stone to open a craft brewery in Big Bear Valley
Brewery news

David Stone, the owner of three lodges, two entertainment venues, and a wine tasting room and vineyard is moving to beer for his next venture. Stone is turning a building on Stone Road in Big Bear Lake into a craft brewery and restaurant. The brewery will be located in the building adjacent to Peppercorn Grille in the Village area of Big Bear Lake, CA, Bigbeargrizzly.net reported on November 13.

Stone Summit Brewery was the original name, but the name was recently abandoned. The applicant is operating under Seven Oaks Inc. Stone said he is considering two different options for the name, but hasn’t made a final decision as yet.

Stone had planned to build a brewery and restaurant on what is known as Christmas Corner in the lot at the intersection of Village Drive and Pine Knot Avenue. That idea fell through due to the Village not being zoned for manufacturing and distribution.

The beer brewed at the Stone Road site will be for consumption there and a retail component that allows the brewery to fill what are known as growlers for off-site consumption.

The license application is pending, according to the ABC website.

The license does not allow bottling at the Stone Road location. “I can bottle it,” Stone said. He said he will brew and bottle at a commercial entity in the Valley if the community is receptive, if not he will move the bottling process to a site off the mountain. It will operate under the same name. Stone did say he could brew and bottle out of his Wolf Creek location where he owns a lodge, wine room and vineyard on Big Bear Boulevard.

Stone said realistically, the brewery won’t open until January.
