Bog Iron Brewing, located in Norton, a small nanobrewery that is run by friends who have been brewing for 20 years as a hobby, is seeking a pouring license to offer samples of beer, wickedlocal.com reported on June, 5.

Co-founder Brian Shurtleff Shurtleff was at the May 30 selectmen’s meeting seeking a pouring license to offer samples to customers but the hearing was continued because abutters had to be notified by certified letters, something Shurtleff said he was not aware of.

“It’s the first pourers’ license we’ve ever had in town,” selectmen Chairman Robert Kimball said.

Shurtleff said the company brews 4-6 times a month making the equivalent of 50 gallons of beer in the 399 square foot location.

“We want to start out as small as possible. If you do the math it’s not a lot of beer,” Shurtleff said.

They offer four different beers and while they cannot sell to the retail market the company currently has two accounts, Trinity in Norton with two beers on tap full-time and Kinsale in Boston that has a dedicated tap to Bog Iron.

“We’re able to sell bottles on demand at the brewery. We’re open a couple hours Saturday afternoons. That and the two accounts is all the beer we can make. We’re maxed out,” Shurtleff said.
