Brewery news

Dignitaries including His Excellency Bruno van der Pluijm, Ambassador of Belgium in Canada, and Reg Milley, President and CEO of Edmonton International Airport (EIA) were on hand on December, 13 to mark the opening of Canada’s first location of the international Belgian Beer Café chain, Canadian Beer News reported on December, 18.

Located in the departure lounge at EIA, the Café has been serving customers since mid-September, but was officially opened last week with a ribbon-cutting by the Ambassador.

The Belgian Beer Café concept was developed in 1998 for Interbrew, a large Belgian brewing company that is now part of the multinational Anheuser-Busch InBev conglomerate. While intended to promote Belgian AB InBev brands such as Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe, the more than 60 locations in 20 countries also offer other Belgian beer brands including Duvel, Gouden Carolus, Chimay and Westmalle.

The EIA location of the Belgian Beer Café is owned by Speedy Creek, an Edmonton-based restaurant company, and features more than 50 Belgian beers.
