Brewery news

New Belgium Brewing Co. began work on the installation of four new tanks, a $10 mln project that will enable the brewery to expand production capacity to 840,000 barrels, Northern Colorado Business Report reported on December, 17.

Each of the four tanks can hold 2,200 hectoliters, and the extra production is expected to help the brewery bridge the gap in production before New Belgium's second brewery comes online in Asheville, N.C., in 2015.

“We needed additional tank space to address demand for the next couple years before Asheville is up and running,” said New Belgium spokesperson, Bryan Simpson. “This will give us a little breathing room.”

The Asheville brewery will break ground this coming spring and is expected to have an initial capacity of 400,000 barrels.

The installation of the new tanks is expected to take six days and will be complete on December, 22. Once they are installed, New Belgium will be able to begin distribution in Alaska and Louisiana. With the addition of the two markets, New Belgium will be present in 31 states and Washington, D.C.
