Brewery news

Westvleteren Brewery's Westvleteren XII beer has been launched in the US market on limited basis, The Drinks Business Review reported on December, 13.

Founded in 1838, the brewery is owned and operated by the Trappist monks of the St Sixus Abbey, Belgium.

The beer, brewed by monks, is usually sold at the abbey of Saint Sixtus in the countryside.

Saint Sixtus or Westvleteren Abdij is home to Trappist Westvleteren Brewery.

The monks have come up with the decision to sell the beer outside Westvleteren Abdij to meet the expenses needed to renovate the monastery.

The beer is available across the US market in a gift box that includes six bottles and two glasses from the monastery.

Westvleteren Brewery spokesman Mark Bode said that this would be the last time the monks will be selling the beer outside the abbey.
