Brewery news

Japan’s Kirin Holding intends to launch regional beer brands in Brazil in order to strengthen the position of its subsidiary Schincariol in the market, CEO Senji Miyake was quoted as saying by correio24horas.com.br on August, 30.

Mr. Miyake made the statement during the official inauguration of Schincariol’s new brewery in Alagoinhas, Bahia, on August, 29.

The investments in the new plant, Schincariol’s largest facility, totalled R$400 mln. The brewery’s production capacity is 9 mln hl of beer and 4 mln hl of soft drinks.

Kirin purchased the controlling stake in Schincariol in November 2011 for R$6.5 bln. Mr. Miyake said the company was not looking for new acquisitions in Brazil, Schincariol capacities being “sufficient for the company’s objectives in Brazil at the moment”.

North-eastern states are the main market for Schincariol, where the company accounts for 30% of the total beer market, as compared to its national share of 15%, it is reported.
