Brewery news

Three residents of Shakopee in the US state of Minnesota plan to open a microbrewery in the city’s former fire station, in response to the growing demand for craft beers, The Drinks Business Review reported on August, 29.

The brewery is expected to be open in June 2013 and produce about 2,000 barrels of beer initially.

Shakopee's brewery would also feature a taproom, brewery tours and sale of beer on-site in refillable glass growlers.

Brewery co-partner Josh Vogel said at a City council meeting in August that the partners believe there is a sustainable business environment for a brewery.

The council has backed the brewery proposal over other business proposals. Mayor Brad Tabke expects the city will benefit from the brewery business.

Brewers Association had reported that though volume sales in the US brewing industry declined, the craft segment is witnessing growth.
