Brewery news

Beer, particularly locally brewed beer flavored with seasonal tropical fruits, have been selling well at two major retail chains in Taiwan amid the recent scorching temperatures, Focus Taiwan reported on July, 11.

Pineapple- and mango-flavored beer launched by the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corp. (TTL) in early April are the best-selling beer products at Carrefour and A.mart stores, with market shares reaching up to 60 percent in recent weeks.

Temperatures in Taipei set 2012 highs on three consecutive days recently, peaking at 38.3 degrees Celsius on July, 10, while central and southern Taiwan have also seen highs of around 35 degrees over the past few days.

Over 1 million cans of various kinds of beer were sold at A.mart stores between June 27 and July 10, further boosted by a promotional event.

RT-Mart, another local hypermarket chain, said female consumers, who normally account for between 20 percent and 30 percent of beer buyers, are expected to increase by at least 10 percent this year because of several new fresh-flavored beers being offered.
