Brewery news

Stronger beer is now for sale in Mississippi bars, restaurants and stores, Wjtv.com reported on July, 01.

Previously, Mississippi limited beer sales to 5% alcohol by weight. Now, the state allows beer with 8% alcohol by weight or 10% by volume.

The beer lovers from the organization Raise your Pints have been lobbying for more than three years to bring stronger beer to Mississippi.

"As consumers, we just wanted access to some of these gourmet beers that the 49 other states already have access to," says Craig Hendry from Raise your Pints.

And beer drinkers who previously travelled across state lines for the strong stuff can now stay in Mississippi - and so will the tax dollars.

"The consumers, the people here today are currently driving across the state lines to get the beer that they've got here today," says Hendry. "They're buying beer at a local MS establishment."
