Brewery news

Russell Brewing has announced the release of Rick August Russian Imperial Stout, a limited edition single batch beer based on a recipe by homebrewer Rick August that won the Grand Prize at the 2011 Golden Stag Home Brewing Contest, held in May 2011 during Vancouver Craft Beer Week, Canadian Beer News reported on May, 28.

In a press release from the brewery, the following description is given for the beer:

The recipe uses more than 10 types of malts, two types of hops, a special yeast strain, juniper berries and licorice root. At 10.8% ABV this strong beer is intensely dark and extremely flavourful.

Rick August Russian Imperial Stout is limited to 360 cases of 650 ml bottles, and is available now at select specialty liquor stores in Vancouver and area. In addition to developing the beer and having his name on the bottle, August will share in the profits of the beer’s sales, up to an amount of C$3000.
