Brewery news

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co has announced details of who will head up its team at its new east coast brewery, due to open in 2014, local media reported on May, 28.

Head brewer at the company's second plant in Mills River, North Carolina, will be Scott Jennings. Brian Grossman, son of the brewery's founder Ken Grossman, and Stan Cooper will be co-managers of the new site.

Jennings has worked for Sierra Nevada since 2001 and was named research and development head brewer in 2004. He also previously took part in a visiting apprenticeship at Young & Co's now closed Ram Brewery in London.

Grossman said: “His (Jennings) technical brewing skills are first-rate, as is his ample creativity. Under his brewing leadership, our North Carolina location will be in great hands.”

In January, Sierra Nevada announced plans to open the second facility, in addition to its current brewery in Chico, California, to add “much-needed capacity”.

The 90-acre site will employ around 90 people and comprise a production facility, restaurant and gift shop. The site will start with a capacity of around 300,000 barrels, with “room to grow”, the company said.
