E-Malt.com News article: World: Diageo Q1 sales increase by 6%
Brewery news

Diageo PLC, the world’s largest liquor producer and owner of the iconic Guinness beer, said on May, 3 sales rose by 6 percent in the first three months of the year while volume increased by 3 percent.

Diageo said the figures, which exclude the effects of acquisitions and currency movements, were in line with the performance in the previous six months. The company did not report earnings in the trading update.

The company, whose brands include Smirnoff vodka, Captain Morgan rum and Guinness, says sales were up 18 percent in Latin America, 12 percent in Africa and 10 percent in the Asia-Pacific region. North American sales were up 5 percent but there was a 1 percent drop in Europe.

The January-March period is the third quarter of Diageo’s financial year. The company will announce full-year results on Aug. 23.
