Brewery news

Texas is about to benefit from Odell Brewing Co.’s head brewer who has had a hand in creating such beers as Deconstruction, Avant Peche and Mercenary, The Coloradoan reported on December, 16.

Joe Mohrfeld, Odell’s head brewer, is moving to Austin, Texas to follow his dream of operating his own brewpub. Mohrfeld plans to start Pint House Pizza with some friends in Austin next year.

“I’m starting the brewpub with a couple friends who live down there,” he said. “It’s a dream of mine to have a brewpub. I’m excited about the venture.”

Originally from Austin, Minn., Mohrfeld, 28, went to CSU for grad school and started with Odell in 2008 in the packaging department. He soon worked his way into the brewhouse cellar and towards the end of 2010 he became the head brewer overseeing the brewhouse and cellar operations.

Brendan McGivney, Odell’s director of production, has been with the brewery for 17 years and said Mohrfeld was a great addition to the team and he is excited to see him following his own dreams.

“This is a great opportunity for him and a great opportunity for us as we look to continue to grow,” McGivney said.

Mohrfeld will remain with Odell through January when he will head to Texas where the brewpub will already be under construction. The brewing equipment is on site, and Mohrfeld said he plans to start making beer in February and open mid- year.
