Brewery news

Danish brewer Carlsberg is establishing a centralized supply organisation for Europe, incorporating group procurement, supply chain and logistics functions, Brewers’ Guardian reported on December, 4.

It will be located in Switzerland and will be in place by the end of 2012.

The organisation will be headed by Peter Ernsting, slotted in as a senior vice president. He joins Carlsberg from Unilever where he was responsible for a similar process.

Bengt Erlandsson, head of Carlsberg's procurement activities, will join Peter Ernsting in managing the new organisation. As a result, he is appointed senior vice president and becomes a member of Carlsberg's Executive Committee.

“The new supply organisation will cross borders and ensure that production is organised as efficiently as possible, capable of delivering all our supply requirements. This will allow our local markets to focus on customers and consumers,” said Carlsberg Group CEO Jørgen Buhl Rasmussen.

Other functions are to be integrated across markets – Rasmussen cited that digital marketing activities will be combined into a new entity allowing for greater co-operation across markets.

As reported previously, Carlsberg is axing between 130 and 150 headquarter positions across Europe with 95 jobs eliminated at the end of November in Denmark, Switzerland and Poland. On top of this, Carlsberg is planning to transfer 25 employees from Carlsberg IT to BSP, its business standardisation project. Part of these changes will be implemented during 2012.
