Brewery news

Kirin Brewery Co. resumed beer production this week at its plant in Sendai, Miyazaki Prefecture, more than six months after it was devastated by the March earthquake and tsunami, Mainichi Japan reported on September, 26.

It began brewing under the "Ichibanshibori" label, using hops grown in Tono city of Iwate, another prefecture badly hit by the March 11 disaster, it said. The company aims to start shipping the product in early November.

Restoration work at the plant commenced in early April, and workers cleaned the installations almost entirely by hand after disposing of spoiled bottled and canned beer stocks equivalent to 17 million 350 millilitre cans.
