E-Malt.com News article: US: Budweiser may lose the position of the nation’s second-best-selling beer to Coors Light
Brewery news

Coors Light is close to surpassing Budweiser as the nation’s best-selling brew behind Bud Light, Advertising Age reported on March, 28, citing data by Beer Marketer’s Insights.

Coors Light ended 2010 with an 8.5 percent market share of all U.S. beer shipments, closing in on Bud's 8.7 percent share, Ad Age reports. Bud Light has 19.1 percent share.

If Coors Light surpasses Budweiser it will be more because of Bud’s decline than Coors Light’s rise, according to Ad Age.

Still, such a close race elicits some fighting words:

“Budweiser is going down,” MillerCoors Chief Marketing Officer Andy England told distributors at the brewer’s convention in San Antonio last week, according to Ad Age.

Some analysts and industry observers have said that Budweiser maker AB InBev will eventually buy SABMiller.

Earlier this week, AB InBev said it agreed to buy Goose Island, the Chicago-based brewer of Honkers Ale, 312 Urban Wheat Ale and Matilda, for $38.8 million.

Also on March, 28, Barron’s named AB InBev CEO Carlos Brito one of the 30 Best CEOs.
