Brewery news

The wholesale price of Guinness Draught and Guinness Red is to rise by 5.1% on 1 February, brand owner Diageo announced this week.

The price hike, which is exclusive of duty, will see the recommended retail price increase by 10p from £2.93 to £3.03. This equates to a 3.4% rise inclusive of duty.

The move follows the January VAT increase and is in line with the firm's annual pricing review.

A spokeswoman for Diageo Great Britain said: "We will continue to invest heavily in Guinness to further raise consumer awareness, drive footfall into pubs and assist our customers with serving fantastic quality Guinness."

The news comes as Heineken UK announced a 3.8% wholesale increase on beer and 4% on cider on both draught and packaged products.
