Brewery news

Danish brewer Carlsberg said it currently “had no plans” to expand its Northampton brewery and the closure of its site in Leeds would not lead to more jobs in Northampton, Northampton Chronicle and Echo published on November, 10.

When the company announced plans to close its historic brewery in Leeds, speculation mounted that long-rumoured plans to expand the Northampton site could be on the cards.

But Carlsberg spokesman Don Hunter insisted the company had no plans for building work in Northampton for the foreseeable future.

He said: "We looked at all the options for the Northampton brewery as part of a year-long review. And having reviewed the options, we have no current plans to expand the brewery."

Carlsberg said it will "make the most" of the larger Northampton site after closing its Leeds brewery, which is to take place by 2011.

Mr Hunter said: "From 2011 onwards we'll be looking at optimising our large brewery in Northampton to provide the majority of our UK requirements, with the remainder coming from other European breweries and our UK-based brewing partners."
