Brewery news

Carlsberg Ukraine presented the new National beer specially created for Moldova, RossBusinessConsulting reported on September, 10.

As Piotr Chernishov, General Director of Carlsberg Ukraine, said at the press conference in Chisinau, the National brand will be sold in Moldova exclusively.

Stable growth of beer consumption on the country’s market was a major precondition for the launch of Carlsberg’s new brand, Chernishov noted.

The demand in Moldova so far was satisfied through growing exports of foreign beers. The country’s consumption is lower than that of its nearest neighbours, but the rate has been growing in recent years, leaving behind the growth of consumption of other beverages.

Besides, Mr. Chernishov said that Carlsberg Ukraine’s research had confirmed the fact that Moldavian consumers do not always find the existing range of beers satisfactory.

National is a 4.2% alcohol pale ale positioned in the medium-price segment. The new brand deliveries started on August, 15, and the beer has already come into the market.

The company plans to deliver about 3.5 mln litres of National in Moldova in 2008.

According to Carlsberg’s data, the company’s brands have a 30% share on Moldova’s market. Brands exported by Carlsberg’s Slavutich brewery hold 17% of the market. It is expected that the launch of National will increase Slavutich Carlsberg Group’s share on Moldova’s market to 25% in 2009.
