Brewery news

Matilda Bay Brewing Co's Alpha Pale Ale was named champion beer at the second Sydney Royal Beer Competition, The Daily Telegraph published February 26.

Excellence and innovation in beer production were taken into consideration when naming the beverage, selected from over 100 commercial and boutique entrants.

Head judge in the taste test, Grahame Latham, said the competition represented the diversity of Australia's beer industry.

"This year's results have been very impressive and encouraging," Mr Latham said.

"They truly highlight the great depth in the quality of Australian brewing."

Six gold medals were awarded among eight categories.

Other winners included Murray's Craft Brewing Co's Murray's Grand Cru, Nail Brewing Australia's Nail Stout and The Little Brewing Company Pty Ltd's Wicked Elf Pale Ale.

Redoak took home a pair of gongs - one for the Redoak Special Strong Bitter and the other for the Redoak Special Reserve.

The Sydney Royal Beer Competition is part the Sydney Royal Food Show.
