E-Malt.com News article: Philippines: San Miguel’s San Fernando Brewery awarded the Silver Ecowatch rating

The San Miguel San Fernando Brewery – the corporation’s largest brewery – was recently awarded the Silver Ecowatch rating by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau Region III (DENR-EMB), according to company’s news room, August 6.

The award is given to industries which extend outstanding efforts to comply beyond what standard environmental laws dictate. Despite the recognition, Plant Operations Manager Bayani Gonzales is optimistic that the team can do better next year. “Let’s continue to aim higher, let’s go for the gold.”

The brewery, located at the 104-hectare San Miguel complex straddling Barangays Quebiawan and Maimpis in San Fernando, Pampanga; was also recognized for launching programs that manifest good corporate citizenship. DENR Regional Director Regidor M. de Leon cited the brewery’s outstanding initiatives, including the Quebiawan waste management program, and notable support for the community’s various environmental projects.

Also awarded were San Miguel Foods, Inc.’s (SMFI) poultry processing plant (double green rating), and San Miguel Packaging Specialist, Inc’s (SMPSI) Beverage Packaging Plant (blue rating). SMPSI’s Crown and Lithography plant, meanwhile, was recognized as an active partner of the DENR-EMB in protecting the environment.
