Cambodian brewer Hanuman Beverages has announced plans to expand into the United States, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to position Cambodian-made beverages in major international markets, the Asia Brewers Network reported on March 9.
The move represents one of the most ambitious export pushes yet by a Cambodian beverage producer and reflects the rapid growth of Hanuman Beverages since its emergence in the Kingdom’s premium beer segment in 2021.
Based in Phnom Penh, Hanuman Beverages was founded by Cambodian entrepreneur Khieu Sarsileap, who serves as the company’s chairwoman. Since its launch, the company has sought to build a modern Cambodian beverage brand capable of competing with international products while highlighting local cultural identity. Hanuman’s operations combine modern brewing technology with a strong emphasis on branding inspired by Southeast Asian mythology and Khmer cultural symbolism.
The company’s flagship product, Hanuman Premium Lager, has become one of the country’s most recognisable premium local beers and has since expanded its portfolio with variants including Hanuman Black, a dark beer, and Neak Classic Asian Lager.
The company has already attracted significant regional attention through its marketing partnerships. In May 2024, Hanuman Beverages signed Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao as its global brand ambassador to raise international awareness of the Hanuman brand while promoting Cambodian tourism and sporting culture.
Pacquiao’s role includes participating in promotional campaigns, supporting the promotion of Cambodian martial arts such as Kun Khmer, and helping introduce the Hanuman brand to international audiences.
Alongside its marketing initiatives, Hanuman Beverages has invested heavily in modern production infrastructure and quality-control systems to ensure its beverages meet international standards. The company has stated that its products comply with international regulatory requirements, including approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, enabling entry into the American market.
Cambodia’s beer market, which is valued at several billion US dollars annually, has seen rising demand for premium and locally branded products as tourism, urban incomes and craft-style consumption increase. Hanuman Beverages has sought to capture this trend by positioning itself as a modern Cambodian beverage brand capable of appealing to both domestic consumers and international markets.
The planned entry into four new export destinations reflects a trend across Southeast Asia for emerging craft and premium brewers to leverage domestic market success into international sales expansion.
