Brewery news USA: UBS cuts Constellation Brands stock price target on weaker beer trends
UBS lowered its price target on Constellation Brands to $175 from $186 while maintaining a Buy rating on June 16, Investing.com reported.

The firm adjusted its assumptions for the first quarter and fiscal year 2027 to reflect weaker beer consumption trends. UBS set its first-quarter earnings per share estimate at $3.12, below the Visible Alpha consensus of $3.24. The downward revision aligns with broader analyst sentiment, as InvestingPro data shows 5 analysts have revised their earnings downwards for the upcoming period.

Constellation Brands is scheduled to report first-quarter earnings on June 30 after the market close. The company reported solid fourth-quarter results and outlined initial fiscal 2027 guidance that many viewed as conservative.

Shares have declined 11.4% since the fourth-quarter report compared with a 3.6% gain for the XLP consumer staples index. The stock currently trades at $142.01, yet InvestingPro analysis suggests Constellation remains undervalued relative to its Fair Value. For investors seeking deeper insights, InvestingPro offers 4 additional exclusive tips, plus comprehensive Pro Research Reports covering this and 1,400+ other US equities. Demand trends have deteriorated considerably over the past two months.

UBS said it does not expect first-quarter results to be a meaningful catalyst but continues to view the guidance as achievable. ...More info on site

Brewery news UK: Most Britons who drink alcohol-free beer still drink alcohol, study finds
Most people in Britain who drink alcohol-free beer also drink alcohol, according to new research that points to a shift in how consumers use no- and low-alcohol products on a night out, Vinetur reported on June 19.

The study, conducted by KAM Insight with Athletic, found that 94% of alcohol-free beer drinkers also consume alcohol. It also found that only 27% of social drinkers now stick exclusively to alcoholic beer when they go out.

The data suggests that moderation is increasingly taking the form of alternating between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks rather than giving up alcohol altogether. That pattern, often called “zebra striping,” is already showing up clearly in the British pub trade. KAM Insight and Athletic said 48% of Britons are already alternating between alcohol-free and alcoholic drinks when they visit the pub.

The findings also point to broader acceptance of alcohol-free beer in mainstream drinking occasions. According to the research, 56% of Britons believe alcohol-free beer is becoming mainstream in the United Kingdom. The same share, 56%, said they are already drinking alcohol-free beer in pubs and bars.

Perceptions of quality also appear to be changing. The study found that 60% of respondents now see alcohol-free beer as being as premium as ...More info on site

Brewery news UK: AB InBev debuting a flavoured extension of its Stella Artois brand
AB InBev is debuting a flavoured extension of its Stella Artois brand and a lemon Bud Light lager, both for the UK market, Global Drinks Intel reported on June 17.

Stella Artois Strawberries & Cream has been released against the backdrop of the brewer’s sponsorship of tennis championships Wimbledon – of which the brand is the ‘official beer partner’. The limited-edition, “blush pink” SKU has an ABV of 3.4% and will be sold in retail multiples Sainsbury’s and The Co-operative “nationwide”, as well as at on-site Wimbledon bars and “select” nearby pubs until the end of the championships on 12 July.

Stella Artois Strawberries & Cream comes in four-packs of 44cl cans with an SRP of GBP6 (US$8.05).

The off-premise sales director at Budweiser Brewing Group UK & Ireland, Mark Wingfield Digby, said: “As the official beer of Wimbledon, we’re always looking for new ways to elevate the consumers’ experience, even if they are taking part from home.

“There’s nothing more synonymous with Wimbledon than strawberries and cream, and Stella Artois Strawberries & Cream brings that much-loved tradition to life, giving shoppers something completely new to discover.”

For Bud Light, meanwhile, a lemon-flavoured SKU called Bud Light Lemon Squeeze will be hitting UK shelves this ...More info on site

Barley news UK: Winter malting barley Buccaneer continuing to impress growers and maltsters
Winter malting barley variety Buccaneer is continuing to impress growers and maltsters since joining the AHDB Recommended List (RL) in 2023, Farmers Weekly reported on June 19.

According to David Griggs, technical director at Crisp Malt, the variety came along at the right time with the right attributes, following years of a noticeable lack of new winter malting barley varieties on the RL.

“Offering a big uplift in yield, particularly untreated, Buccaneer gained industry support following its malting barley committee [MBC] approval for brewing. It continues to attract dedicated winter malting barley growers who have moved away from older varieties,” says David.

“Maltsters like it, the brewing industry likes it, and, with a 5% yield advantage over Craft, I can only see more growers moving towards it as long as it continues to perform,” he concludes.

Norfolk farmer Andrew Ross has included winter malting barley in his rotation for over 40 years.

Andrew introduced Buccaneer for the first time in the 2024-25 season, replacing Flagon. He is now in his second season with the variety, and sees winter malting barley as a highly commercial second cereal crop and an excellent entry for oilseed rape.

Farming at Houghton St Giles, near Walsingham, Andrew is part of ...More info on site

Whisky news India: Growth in imported whisky slows for second consecutive year
India's post-pandemic whisky splurge is showing signs of sobriety, The Economic Times reported on June 19.

Growth in imported whisky sales slowed for a second consecutive year in 2025 across Scotch, Irish, Japanese and American categories, reflecting a broader moderation in discretionary spending after the premium spirits boom that followed the pandemic, according to data from alcohol market researcher IWSR.

Scotch, the largest imported whisky segment, for example, grew 5% in 2025, down from 6% a year earlier and well below its 17.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2020 and 2025.

The deceleration was sharper in Irish whiskey, with growth slowing to 21% in 2025 from a segment-leading 58% surge in 2024.

"The moderation in growth rates is best seen as a normalisation following the exceptional post-pandemic period, when premium spirits categories experienced rapid expansion," said Amitabh Pande, chief strategy officer, India, at Diageo.

"We are now returning to more sustainable, long-term growth rates across categories," he added.

While parts of middle-class India have been facing pressure on discretionary spending over the past few years, Pande stressed the underlying premiumisation trend remains intact. "Consumer interest in premium spirits continues to be strong," he said.

Diageo, the country's largest distiller, sells Scotch such as Johnnie Walker and ...More info on site

Whisky news World: New Diageo boss sets cost-reduction targets
Johnnie Walker maker Diageo's new boss, Dave Lewis, has asked executives to cut headcount and other costs as he begins restructuring the struggling spirits group, the Financial Times reported on June 17.

Lewis, nicknamed "Drastic Dave" for aggressive cost cuts at Tesco and Unilever, has set cost-reduction targets for members of Diageo's executive committee rather than specifying number of roles to eliminate, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

An internal announcement on the scale of the job losses is expected next week, the report added.

In an emailed response to Reuters, Diageo said that in February it had shared its intention to redesign its operating model to improve competitiveness and deliver sustainable returns. It added it would update investors on progress at a Capital Markets Day on August 6.

Lewis said last month the company had begun tackling weak sales in North America, its largest market, which he called its "biggest challenge", with steps including price cuts on some tequila brands such as Casamigos.

He also said Diageo had undertaken "fundamental" work to address competitiveness around the world.
