USA, KS: Stockyards Brewing Co. to open new Overland Park location by the end of January
|
West Bottoms’ Stockyards Brewing Co. began planning to enter the Johnson County market in 2020. On Thursday, January 22 Stockyards released an opening date for its 10310 Mastin St. spot in Overland Park, The Kansas City Star reported.
The new brewery will open Jan. 30, according to a news release.
Husband and wife duo Greg Bland and Meg Moore will bring the cowboy-style brewery into a space formerly home to grocery co-op AGI (and Piggly Wiggly before that).
“From musicians to regulars to staff to the collaborative KC beer industry, Stockyards is lucky to have become the best of all the people who make it what it is,” Greg Bland, aka the “Trail Boss,” said in a press release.
“We don’t get to keep doing this without people far beyond us supporting it.”
The company said in its statement that Stockyards is committed to serving the public at a time when many small businesses and breweries are struggling.
The new space features a main taproom and a second family-style room, with another bookable area that has couch seating. Outside food is welcome.
“Plenty of conversations mused if the new location was still opening after initial development began in 2020 and slowed, but

USA, WI: Ope! Brewing Co. to open a second, significantly larger location in Appleton
|
A southeast Wisconsin-based brewing company is planning to open a second, significantly larger location in the Fox Valley this spring, Yahoo reported on January 23.
Ope! Brewing Co., a dog-friendly brewery based in West Allis, announced plans to open a new Appleton location on a 2.5-acre site at the former Car City dealership at 1932 W. College Ave.
The expansion comes as the brewery continues to experience rapid growth since launching in 2022. The Appleton facility will span approximately 23,000 square feet across four buildings and feature two taprooms.
Plans for the site include two sand volleyball courts, four outdoor pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor live-music stages, a designated food truck area, and expansive outdoor seating.
The new location will also include a pilot brewhouse for developing new beer recipes, along with additional equipment for cider production.
Both taprooms will feature a total of 12 roll-up garage doors designed to create an open indoor-outdoor environment during warmer months.
As with the West Allis location, all areas of the Appleton brewery will be dog-friendly.
Ope! Brewing Co. is operated by co-owners John Onopa and Kyle Ciske. The original West Allis brewery has become known for its rotating food trucks, sand volleyball leagues, cornhole leagues and pet-friendly atmosphere —

USA, TN: Jackalope Brewing Company announces acquisition of Black Abbey Brewing Company
|
Jackalope Brewing Company announced on January 22 the acquisition of Black Abbey Brewing Company, uniting two longtime friends and respected voices in Tennessee craft beer as Jackalope continues its next phase of thoughtful expansion.
The acquisition formalizes a relationship that has existed for more than a decade—built on shared values, mutual respect, and a deep connection to Nashville's beer community. Black Abbey's distinct brewing identity and well-loved beers will continue under Jackalope's ownership, supported by increased production capability, broader distribution reach, and a growing platform for long-term brand development.
"This isn't a transaction between strangers," said Steve Barone, CEO/Owner of Jackalope Brewing Company. "Jackalope and Black Abbey grew up together in this market. Our soul comes from Nashville and the community that supported us from the beginning. This next chapter reflects a very intentional approach—growing alongside brands that share our standards, our values, and our commitment to this city."
Founded in 2013, Black Abbey has earned a loyal following for its thoughtful, European-inspired beers and its strong sense of place within the Middle Tennessee beer community. Under Jackalope's stewardship, Black Abbey's beers will continue to be brewed with the same care and intention that defined the brand from the start—now backed

USA, CA: Laughing Monk Brewing to open its fifth location in Campbell
|
A new watering hole is moving into The Pruneyard six months after Rock Bottom Brewery closed, San Jose Spotlight reported on January 22.
Laughing Monk Brewing will open its fifth location in Campbell, where Rock Bottom Brewery was housed for 30 years. Unlike its national chain predecessor, Laughing Monk is a local brewery with four locations in the Bay Area — Sunnyvale, Scotts Valley and two in San Francisco, one being a separate taproom. The brewery is known for its variety of craft beers and drinks, as well as its welcoming ambiance.
A spokesperson for Regency Centers, which owns The Pruneyard, confirmed a deal has been signed with the brewmaster. They could not say when the brewery will open.
The owner of Laughing Monk Brewing did not respond to requests for comment.
Campbell Economic Development Manager Nathan Donato-Weinstein said Laughing Monk will be a good addition to the retail center, citing its history in the Bay Area and diverse menu.
“They have been really successful in other communities with both a really strong craft beer program and food, and they’ve created these social spaces that draw a wide variety of people and families,” Donato-Weinstein told San José Spotlight. “That kind of offering fits really well

India: United Spirits sees sharp rise in profitability in the third quarter of FY26
|
United Spirits Ltd., one of India’s leading beverage alcohol companies and the Indian arm of Diageo, has reported a sharp rise in profitability for the third quarter of FY26, supported by premiumisation and steady demand for higher-end brands, Food Business reported on January 22.
The company posted a 24.7% increase in profit after tax (PAT) to Rs 529 crore (US$63.7 million), delivering year-on-year growth of 11.8% and a net profit margin of 14.4%.
During the quarter, gross profit rose 12.3%, while the gross margin expanded to 46.2%, an increase of 219 basis points compared with the same period last year. United Spirits said the improvement was driven by “premiumisation-led mix enhancement, ongoing productivity initiatives and the flow-through of prior-year pricing actions”.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at Rs 618 crore (US$74.5 million), up 5.1% year on year. The EBITDA margin came in at 16.8%, contracting by 35 basis points, largely due to higher advertising and promotion spending.
Net Sales Value (NSV) for Diageo India reached Rs 3,694 crore (US$445.3 million), representing a 7.6% year-on-year increase. The company said this was driven by strong performance in the top end of its portfolio, although growth was partly offset by “the

China & Hong Kong: China’s Henan Kingstar Brewery files for IPO on Hong Kong Stock Exchange
|
China’s Henan Kingstar Brewery Co. Ltd has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, potentially bringing the city its first new beer listing since 2019 when Budweiser Brewing Co. APAC was listed. For Kingstar, a successful IPO would cap a dramatic operational turnaround driven largely by its aggressive pivot into craft beer, at a time when China’s broader beer market has plateaued, Asia Brewers Network reported.
Founded in 1982, Henan Kingstar Brewery built its business as a regional brewer in Henan province, relying on local distribution strength and cost efficiency rather than premium branding. Like many provincial brewers, it faced mounting pressure as China’s beer industry consolidated around a small number of national champions. With volume growth flattening across the sector, management was forced to rethink its product strategy and refocused on the fast-growing craft beer sector.
According to third-party data cited in Kingstar’s listing document, the country’s craft beer market expanded from approximately CNY12 billion (US$1.72 billion) in 2019 to CNY63 billion in 2024, representing compound annual growth of more than 35%. Kingstar has been successful in taking advantage of that demand surge by launching numerous craft beer lines in recent years.
In August 2024, the

Argentina: Non-alcoholic beer begins to consolidate itself as one of the most dynamic segments within beer market
|
While the segment of non-alcoholic beer still represents a small portion of the total market in the world, its rapid expansion has reached approximately 1.3% of the total volume, with significant growth potential compared to markets like Canada or the United States, where the market share is already approaching double digits, FreshlyBottled.com reported on January 15.
In Argentina, non-alcoholic beer has begun to consolidate itself as one of the most dynamic segments within the national beer market. Driven by cultural changes and strong investment from large companies, this category shows growth rates that far exceed those of traditional beer and aligns with a global trend.
Quilmes Brewery and Malting Company, one of the leading companies in the local market, highlighted that the growth is due to a shift in consumption patterns, as the non-alcoholic beer segment is growing at a rate of nearly 60% annually. According to an internal company survey, six out of ten Argentinians who drink beer have already tried a non-alcoholic version, a figure that underscores the rapid growth of this segment. Quilmes, a pioneer in the local development of non-alcoholic beers, now offers alternatives such as Quilmes 0.0, Stella Artois Non-Alcoholic, and Corona Cero, supported by production investments

Colombia: Government raises VAT on distilled beverages
|
Consumers of distilled alcoholic beverages in Colombia have faced a significant price change since January for products such as whiskey, aguardiente, rum, and brandy, FreshlyBottled.com reported on January 22.
This is because the VAT on these beverages will increase from 5 % to 19 %, as part of the fiscal measures included in the economic emergency decree.
In addition to the VAT increase, these products are subject to the consumption tax, which has also been adjusted and includes an additional component per bottle, raising the final cost to the consumer.
With the combination of the new 19 % VAT and the existing consumption tax, the price of some liquors will rise significantly in 2026, it is reported.
